I have just run the DaeLoaderTest and the new implementation not just works great, but also loads the fantasin model faster than the old one. Very good job. Congratulations!

Thanks.  Honestly, I wasn't expecting a speedup.

I renamed the thread to collada updates rather than making a new thread for each collada related topic.

Collada 1.5 was released recently.  It 'supposedly' adds LODs, but doesn't have switch in/out values.  So i really don't know what use they are.

So my current plan is to continue with 1.4.1 and at some point add a second path (1.5) to the parser/loader.  The majority of the changes don't affect 1.4.1, but overall the 1.5 changes are not backwards compatible.  I feel as though it'll be at least 6 months - 1 year before we start seeing files with these changes.

Well, one could simply add those values to the game's (extended/expert) configuration settings.

It's certainly better to get the collada loader to work with all (used) features like animations. And then add support for 1.5. So, just go ahead Smiley.

Just committed some changes that will allow the collada loader to handle more complex scenes.  Mostly nodes that are children of other nodes.

Quick update... Life events took up a good portion of my time, and still do.  I still don't have much time.  I'll pop in now and then, but overall I don't have time/interest to commit a great deal of time to the collada loader.

I had trouble motivating myself to work on collada.  I found that when I tried to stop myself from working on other projects before working on collada, I ended up playing video games.

I'll try and follow-up on bug reports to it.

Courage to you, qbproger. As someone who tried to implement COLLADA fully, I know what a pain it can be, and how other life activities may look more enjoyable. (And they are..)
