I was wondering if there was either a Frames Per Second Hud or Foreground Node that I can quickly add to my code, or a good example of code that does it so I could just copy and paste it.

If theres not a Node for it does any one thing there should be?

There's a Widget in org.xith3d.ui.hud.widgets.assemblies called FPSCounter. It does exactly what you want.
