Marvin,

Is there an easy way to create light-weight instances of nodes with children?

For example, if I've got a TransformGroup with some Shape3Ds attached, and would simply like to stamp it out across the scene without adding full-blown subgraphs for it, is there a way to do this? I think I would just need a transform and a reference to the desired prototype group...

Any ideas?

No. There was a way once. But it messed up the renderer code and was hence removed from the code base. You have to create shared copies. I am not sure. But theoretically a call to sharedCopy() on the master group should shared-copy all of the children.
