I have improved Text2D performance (and DynamicLabel) by using only one single Texture. Ok it didn't do as much as I expected, but a bit Wink.

And DynamicLabels were not correctly aligned. This is also fixed now.

Before you actually use Text2D you should consider better using org.xith3d.geometry.TextRectangle. It is a simple org.xith3d.geometry.Rectangle extension, that displays text (not only one letter, but full (aligned) text).

It will always be faster, if your text is not too dynamic (doesn't change every third frame or so).
