Hello. I just began with Xith3d and I love it. It´s simple and the interface is very similar to Java3d.

I am trying to load an ASE model maded with 3DS MAX. The model has animation using the physique modifier with MAX Biped. I supposse that this modifier generate in some point a frame animation for the model.

1) How do I load the model with the animation with Xith?
I tried:
Code:
AseModel model = loader.loadModel( resLoc.getResource( "models/Test.ASE" ) );

The model was loaded but with no animation.
I look at the getting_started_guide_2.pdf, when you load a Tank but the methods used seems to be deprecated.
Is there any example?

2) Is there anyway for not exporting the biped in the 3DS MAX? I can delete it from the .ASE file but, for example the VRML exporter has the option to export only the visible objects of the scene.

3) Should be better to use CAL3D?

I personally do not know much about 3DS Max (I use Blender 3D), but I do know that Cal3D would be better.  There are a number of forum threads on this topic (mostly started by me  Smiley).

Additionally, Amos was working on a COLLADA loader, which will completely overshadow the Cal3D loader (and pretty much all other loaders, for that matter)...speaking of which, how's it coming, Amos?

It's frightening, that (and where) all people still have this getting started guide from. It IS really outdated.

ASE is not the best solution for a really feature-rich model file. All animations will have to be done manually. Cal3D seems to work pretty well. But I would also advise you to wait for the upcoming COLLADA loader (not the one currently existing in the xith-tk).

AHAH, guys, you're asking the good question at the good moment Smiley

So what ? So I (and Xith3D) take advantage of the long holidays (note : all my exams are finished now, pheww) to work hard.
Do I surprise you if I tell you I slept hardly an hour or two the last nights ? Hehe Wink you're geek or you're not.

So, dear kukanani (personified patience Smiley ), dear Marvin, and dear maguila007 (and a big welcome to you, by the way) I am happy to announce you that the COLLADA loader's coming along very well. Especially, I'm beginning to think of skeletal animation of "damn easy" whereas I used to say it was a "hell of a confusing thing".

I will post some news in a few hours with a screenshot and a few comments on how it's been going on.

But you know what ? I'm really afraid of how many bug reports I'll have when I'll release the first usable version of the COLLADA Loader. That's mostly not my fault, really. Don't ever say to me again that COLLADA is a "standard" and that it's "compatible". There are as many COLLADA file definitions as DCC tools/importers/exporters. Wow. Workarounds' time, guys Smiley
