Please note that the wink video capture does not do the game justice...such is life!!!

Impressive! Smiley

You really know how to create good models and integrate them into a game. Keep the good work. Can't wait to see the complete game. Don't know, if I asked that before: Will it be opensource or freely available? Or how much will it be?

oh oh hawkwind so that's what you were working on while you were not on these forums Smiley

very, very nice : I can't wait to see more.

one tiny little piece of advice, though : maybe you could "polish" your game more. e.g. consistent user interface (same style everywhere : the "default-xith3d-hud-style" violet "Close" button really contrasts with the other widgets), anti-aliased fonts ?, smooth transparency for images (we don't need to see pixels on the outline of alphatransparent images), consistent models (some, like the postbox, are very low-poly, and some like the tree near the postbox, are really high-poly..).

but well, that's a very, very nice start.

Very VERY cool.

Strong Points I Noticed:

-The speech gen thing is awesome
-The lighting is spectacular
-The whole scene/model setup is great
-Pretty good UI

Weak Points I Noticed:

-The mailbox
-The door opens upward Smiley
-Skeleton is VERY high-poly-looking.

Suggestions:

-Get a better mailbox
-Get a simpler skeleton model.  I would suggest making the rib cage one large piece somewhat in the shape of the skeleton's ribcage, and texturing it with a semi-transparent "ribs" texture.

All in all, a great demo.  Keep up the good work!

On the subject of UI consistency and dense models.....MAN did I get tired of resource creation/maintenance.  Every time you change your ideas there is a crap load of image/model mods to make.

Between re syncing Xith with new improvements
Manipulating images and image sets
fixing Obj's

I wasn't actually coding anymore, 10% code, 90% asset maint.  So I decided to post it in its current form.  Now that thats done I can go back a re think the total look and feel.

I made a major goof early on and created a number of static dialog images etc.  Long before the 2D/3D text worked as well as it did.  This was a pain to maintain.

Along with this eye candy I plan on starting a wiki entry on how I designed the game.  I will also release my 3D editor for general use.  The main thing that editor provides in render system nuetral scene editing with the ability to assign user defined attributes to specific object.  More on this later.

I hope you guys noticed your names in the credits screen.  Lower right and left sides.

What I would like to do is put this version out as webstartable for general use/comment.  Do we have a Xith based jnlp file to use as an example??

I am between web hosts at the moment aand don't have a home for my game accessable to a general audience.  Is there any space off the Xith site??  I remember Amos offering a location awhile ago.

I don't know. I don't have one.

Well, I found it funny, that Amos offered webspace on xith.org, since it is my webspace Smiley. But I would be happy to give you the same offer. When you've got the jnlp ready, you can send be the data and I will upload it to xith.org. Alternatively I could grant you ftp access, if you want.

oops  I was ambiguous there, Amos offered on his site, not Xith.

As to the webstart, we had at one time a number of webstart xith demos on the old pages, maybe one of these is still around somewhere.  Most of the javacooldude stuff was webstartable

Marvin : I found it very funny that you say it this way. You have taken the decision to transfer Xith3D's whole webspace from William Denniss's host to your host. William Denniss's host contained a Xith3D-user space ( http://users.xith.org/ : it is still online, as you can see. ). And in the case you would have had problems with continuing to provide the services William was offering, I would have OF COURSE hosted them on the several 1Go free ad-less webspaces I have. So.. I don't really the point of your rant here ?

hawkwind : I am currently on a very cool project, which would include easy ways of making money with your game.. it is something which will take months to be done (as we're still in an early "design phase") but I think it would be very interesting for you especially. We are offering free web-hosting and a platform for commercial/semi-commercial game deployment (you can control e.g. the player can play 3 hours then he needs to pay.. or he has to pay from the beginning.. or he has a demo and if he wants more he can pay... or he can play the whole game without paying a dime Cheesy, it's just as you like). Maybe you can contact me via e-mail or instant messaging so that we can talk of that more comfortably ?

Well, of course the xith3d user space is still online, since I have explicitly (re-)created this subdomain. And yes, it is there for xith3d folks to host their stuff. As you can see from my own offer, I have no problem at all to host that. The only point is, that I like to be informed/asked before this can be done, since I am the one, who is primarily liable for everything hosted on my webspace. You see?

Which is why, I had planned to 1) ask you if it was OK to host on YOUR webspace and 2) if it wasn't the case, to host on MY webspace.
Is that alright ?
