I've been thinking that it would be really awesome to create a Gallery link on the main site where members of the community can submit screenshots of their games to help show off what xith3d can do.

Related to this could also be (link off the features link) that has a list of features of xith3d and an accompanying screenshot (or video?) showing the feature in action. These can be taken directly from the library of demos that are already built. This could be very handy to get the interest of even more people.

I know for myself, I had looked at using JOGL directly, jME, or Xith3d. If other people out there are doing the same investigatory work that I have (to determine what to use), this could be such a thing to get them to choose Xith3d.

Thoughts?

I really like that idea. Though I'm not sure, if I will find the time to prepare the page for community uploads. It's much easier, if people will just mail me their media and I will upload it via FTP. (Really previliged members might also get FTP access Smiley).

Yep, that's a good idea. karmaGfa also told me the other day that there was a lack of nice screenshots on the Xith3D homepage, and I must admit that myself, when I'm looking for something like a 3D engine, I look for impressive images.

Marvin : really, that's a little time invested to write a small PHP script to upload the screenshots and display them correctly. I think we can even find some script like that on the net.

Though I don't know if you want to take one of those : http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Image_Galleries/index.html

or write your own. We don't need all the features.

Well, what we do need is a user-management, since not each single idiot out there in the internet must be allowed to upload new media or change existing ones. Only out trusted members of the community should be granted that privilege. Otherwise there will be some new Turkish hackers ready to hack out site soon Wink.

Totally agree. I'm cool with the idea of emailing screenshots to an admin or a user who has those rights. That way, there can be some sort of "review" to make sure people aren't uploading inappropriate content.
