Hi Folks!

We're three university students from germany, currently working on a 1st person shooter using Xith3D. It's an univesity project Grin Our first goal is a simplified version with one or two levels and multiplayer support.

The game plays in a dark future environment, think "Underworld" meets "Warhammer 40.000". Currently we're working on the technological basis of the game, so there's no eye candy to see yet - first things first.

Is there anywhere a finished game on Xith-Basis yet? Looking for a hands-on example. Anyways, when we're finished we'll provide a complete documentation how we did it to make it easier for beginners, skimming through the sourcecodes takel plenty of time.

So, we'll have regular updates here, and sure enough we will have loads of questions in the other subforums  Wink

Stay tuned!

hi, Walther

Willkommen auf dem Xith3D Board Smiley.

Even if I don't know very much about projects out there using Xith3D (see this link for a first hint) with what technology do you want to realize your shooter? Do you want to do everything by hand and on your own? Or do you maybe want to use e.g. a Quake3 BSP file for the level, and ase, 3ds, obj, cal3d, etc. files for the models?

Have a look at org.xith3d.test.loaders.BSPLoaderTest class (from SVN) for a first hint on how to use the BSPLoader and EgoInputAdapter to handle first person shooter like input controls.

Hi we already did that, but now i try to do some kind of physiks.
org.xith.collider.* did not help us very well. Maybe we just didn't realy understand it how to use it correctly. Is there an other example than "CollisionDropTest". First we just need somekind of fast Collision testing that a player can't walk throw walls and stand on the floor. Little bit of bouncing woud be n1 but isn't a major goal.

In this moment i try to get a resolution with odejava, works but it is unkonfortable.
Bouncing and standing on floor are greate but moving like walking is a little bit hard.
Also we need to run our project on SUN OS x86 and Sparc and i didn't find a binary and a first try of compliling failed.

Hmm... You shouldn't use xith's collision system. It tends to be very slow and doesn't work anymore since... don't know. Well nobody uses it actively and I think it will be removed from TK at some time (maybe prior to 1.0).

JOODE is the project you're looking for. It has been started as a pure java port of ode and is now way more then that. I've never worked with it, but it is said to be very fast, convenient and good. And it perfectly works with xith.

Did I already mention that we will condense everything into some kind of tutorial when we're finished?

You did. And I can't wait to see it (and put it somewhere on xith.org with you kind permission) Wink.
